Das erste Erscheinen der Hierarchie von Daten - Informationen - Wissen - Weisheit wird im Gedicht „The Rock“ von T.S. Eliot vermutet, erschienen 1934, indem folgende Zeilen geschrieben stehen: 

 

„Where is the wisdom that we have lost in knowledge? 

Where is the knowledge that we have lost in information?” 

 

Desweiteren spielen Ackoff, Zeleny und weitere eine wesentliche Rolle. Aufgreifen möchte ich Ackoff und Zeleny: 

 

Ackoff veröffentlichte 1989 ein Paper zum Thema “From data to wisdom”, wobei er zu Daten, Informationen, Wissen und Weisheit noch das Verstehen und die Intelligenz hinzugefügte:  

 

„Wisdom is located at thte top of a hierarchy of types […] Descending from wisdom there are understanding, knowledge, information, and, at the bottom, data. Each of these includes the categories that fall below it – for example, there can be no wisdom without understanding and no understanding without knowledge.” 

 

Zeleny fügte diesem Modell noch "Enlightment" hinzu. Hierbei geht es ihm um "not only answering or understanding why (which he deinfes as wisdom), but going further and attaining the sense of truth, the sense of right and wrong, and having it socially accepted, respected and sanctioned." 

 

Was alle gemeinsam haben sind auf der einen Seite die Elemente Daten, Information, Wissen und Weisheit und auf der anderen Seite deren Zusammenhang.
