b. Experience with encounter groups and international communication, esp. WAPCEPC 
III. Purpose of Encounter 
a. Direct, personal experience with meaningful communication 
b. Experience empathy and openness, crucial for learning to be empathic and open 
c. Authentic, or real communication between persons with different cultures and perceptions 
d. Gain awareness, skills, and attitudes to improve self and communication with others 
e. Situate theory, research, pedagogies, demonstration or pedagogies 
IV. PQ purpose and procedure 
a. General, common team purposes AND specific, personalized individual purposes 
b. Completed before or at start of group, including duration form 
c. Complete again yesterday or today 
d. Consider course purpose and general areas for personal and professional goals 
e. Complete again after first night (before 9am tomorrow) just PQ form 
f. Can add goals at any time 
g. Again on Saturday after end of first course 
h. Potentially again right before and right after each workshop or course within ICom 
i. Give to Jef Cornelius-White, as more “external” to the whole ICom project 
j. Confidential with JCW but may share your own goals with anyone else 
V. Role of facilitators 
a. Experience Empathy, Unconditional Positive Regard, Nondirective Attitude 
b. Request authentic dialogue, not role play 
c. Personally engage to learn, be influenced and/or self-disclose 
d. Be a resource for additional activities, experiences, or information 
VI. Additional activities 
a. Demonstration of active listening and empathy in person-to-person communication 
b. Role play, listening and problem-solving with current or expected problematic interaction in professional setting in pairs or small groups 
c. Learn from video of cross-cultural interaction (e.g., Rogers with Dadisi) 
d. Walk to Danube Island or other outside activity 
e. Network for research projects related to ICom in small groups 
f. Etc. 
VII. Participants

b. Additions or Absences for particular times 
c. Co-creating the experience through sharing, listening, requesting as needed, including expectations, preferences, resources 
VIII. Break, then begin encounter group. Meet again at 9am tomorrow
