Weekly course with NO compulsory attendance
Hörsaal 2, Thursday weekly from 05.03.2020 to 25.06.2020, 11:30 - 13:00
The lectures will be given in English.
Information #1
Dear Colleagues
Due to the actual situation of the shutdown of presence lectures at the University of Vienna till Easter break, we have to do some slight modifications of our planned schedule of the IMSE lectures.
First of all, we are convinced this will not be disadvantageous to you, the students.
The basic idea is that we start with work for milestone 1 and 2 now, continue with the lectures after the break and finalize milestone 3 at the end of semester as planned.
So, there are some modifications of the deadlines of the milestones (see new schedule below). However, the exam will take place as planned.
Changes to the original plans also comprise:
• We reduce the number of theory presence lectures by one, cancel the presence tutorials and replace them by “voice-over-slides” presentations.
• All lecture slides will be available from now on.
• The planned tutorials will be available as “voice-over-slides” presentations very soon.
As always, all materials will be provided via the Cewebs site.
Information #2
Due to the current situation of the shutdown of presence lectures at the University of Vienna till end of semester, we have to do some additional slight modifications of our planned schedule of the IMSE lectures.
First of all, as stated already, we are convinced that there will not be disadvantages for you, the students.
Lectures:
From today’s point of view, there are no modifications to the time schedule. However, due to the situation that no presence lectures are allowed, we will switch the lectures to reading mode.
All lectures are available and downloadable from the CEWebS site. According to our original plan for each lecture a start date is given, when the lectures have to be processed (read and comprehended) by students, e.g. lecture “Data Engineering 1” starts on 23.04.2020. Until the next lecture the students are advised, if necessary, to use the forum to pose questions on unclear or ambiguous topics. We will answer these questions in timely fashion.
This proposed process aims to cluster questions and answers related to the planned sequence of lecture topics. Of course, questions on anything can be raised anytime.
Project:
There are no modifications to the deadlines and requirements of the project’s milestones.
Exam:
The exam will take place according to our schedule as planned. However, no presence exam is possible. So, we will switch to a digital exam with open book questions, as recommended by the University (https://ctl.univie.ac.at/en/remote-learning/exams/). The exam can be downloaded from CEWebS at the time of the scheduled exam, i.e. 28.05.2020 at 11:30. The exam document will be a Word document according to the template of the University which has to be filled with answers to the questions. You will be awarded 4 hours to take the exam. The filled exam as PDF(!) has to be uploaded to the CEWebS site, similar to the project milestones. The deadline for this upload will be 4 hours after publication, i.e. 28.05.2020 at 15:30, at the latest.
As requirement for the exam, you have to be capable to fill out a Word document and to store and upload it finally as PDF to the CEWebS site, similar to the milestone artefacts. We will do a dummy test for checking the technical feasibility one week ahead of the planned exam, i.e. 21.05.2020.
We are sorry that we had to do these modifications, but we are forced by the situation and have to follow the guidelines of the University.
We wish you all the best, and stay safe and healthy.
