Design Science Research Guidelines
Guideline 1: Design as an Artifact
The maturity model developed in this thesis is expected to be a purposeful IT artifact which addresses a certain problem.
Guideline 2: Problem Relevance
The challenges the financial services industry is facing, SOA’s potential to mitigate some of these challenges, and the issues which arise during the adoption of a SOA in such an environment are relevant issues which are outlined in the chapters four and five.
Guideline 3: Design Evaluation
The design of the maturity model is evaluated by conducting interviews with experts in the relevant areas.
Guideline 4: Research contributions
The developed maturity model and the systematization of criteria for SOA maturity is a contribution to research in this field but also a real-world solution.
Guideline 5: Research Rigor
The maturity model was created in a research process.
Guideline 6: Design as a Search Process
The development of the initial model and evaluation and improvement using interviews represents an iterative approach. Further iterations can be done by using the model in a real-world example and implement further improvements.
Guideline 7: Communication of research
The model itself as well as the research approach and the potential benefits its application offers are documented and communicated.
